Roblox Emotes Not Showing? Use the Emote Wheel and /e Commands
Roblox emotes let your avatar wave, dance or react without sending a message. If the emote wheel is missing or typing /e dance does nothing, the issue is not necessarily your account: the experience, avatar setup or available chat controls can change how emotes behave. Here is how to find the built-in tools first, then troubleshoot them safely.
How to use Roblox emotes in a game
- Join an experience that supports avatar emotes.
- Open the in-experience menu, often shown as the Roblox or menu icon.
- Look for Emotes. If it is present, open the menu and select an available emote.
- If the experience supports chat commands, open the chat field and try a standard command such as
/e wave. - If an emote fails, try the wheel instead of repeatedly sending commands.
Roblox describes the default menu and commands in its Animation System (Emotes) help page. Interface positions can differ across desktop, mobile, console and custom experiences.
Common /e emote commands
| Command | Typical action |
|---|---|
/e wave | Wave |
/e point | Point |
/e cheer | Cheer |
/e laugh | Laugh |
/e dance | Dance |
/e dance2 or /e dance3 | Alternative dance animations where supported |
These are examples from Roblox’s traditional animation system, not a promise they work inside every user-created game. An experience may override default emotes or limit chat features.
How to equip different emotes on your avatar
Open Roblox’s Avatar Editor and look for the animation or emote customization area. If your version offers equipped emote slots, select the emotes you own and assign them to available positions. Then enter a compatible experience and open its emote menu to see what is available. Paid emotes are optional; free default options exist on supported setups.
For guidance on clothing and avatar appearance, see our Roblox Avatar Editor guide. Roblox also documents its original in-game emote menu rollout for developers, although the client interface has evolved.
Why are Roblox emotes not showing?
The game uses its own animation system
Some creators build custom movement, action menus or role-play systems. A missing emote wheel in one experience does not prove Roblox removed emotes globally. Test an experience with built-in avatar emotes before troubleshooting your account.
Your avatar or the experience has animation restrictions
An animation made for one rig style may not behave the same way with another. Review the experience’s avatar rules and check whether it enforces a character model. Our R6 versus R15 avatar guide explains the distinction.
Chat or communication tools are unavailable
Some accounts have age-appropriate communication restrictions, and individual games can have custom chat behavior. Use the visible emote menu if chat commands are unavailable; do not attempt to bypass communication limits.
The emote has not been equipped
Owning an animation and seeing it in an in-game wheel are not always the same step. Revisit the Avatar Editor and the experience’s supported emote slots.
Emotes on phone and console
On mobile, open the game menu or available action controls; do not expect a physical keyboard shortcut. On consoles, menu navigation varies with the Roblox client and experience. If a guide insists a single button always opens an emote wheel, treat it as device-specific, not universal.
Avoid ‘free emote’ scripts and suspicious downloads
You do not need to install an executable or paste an unknown script into your account to use ordinary Roblox emotes. Sites promising to unlock every paid animation can expose your account to scams. Use Roblox’s own avatar and marketplace tools instead.
FAQ
Why doesn’t /e dance work?
That game may use custom animations, restrict commands or provide a different menu. Try the built-in wheel in another compatible experience.
Are Roblox emotes always free?
Some default emotes are free, but other avatar emotes may be paid items. Availability and prices can change.
Can I use every emote in every experience?
No. Creators control gameplay and can change or disable their experience’s animation interfaces.
Is there a universal emote key?
Not across every device and experience. Look for the emote menu and check current controls.
