Reviewed October 9, 2026. A Roblox display name and a Roblox username are not the same thing. If you know an account’s appearance but no longer remember its exact @username, Roblox provides a recovery route that does not require guessing spelling or searching public profiles indefinitely.
First distinguish display name from username
On a Roblox profile, the @username appears beneath the display name. The display name can be shared by other accounts; the username identifies the specific account. A screenshot of your avatar or a friend’s recollection of your display name may be useful background, but neither is a substitute for the identity shown in Roblox’s account recovery results.
Recover usernames using email
From the login screen select Forgot Username or Password? and enter the email address that was already attached to the account. Roblox sends a recovery message to that inbox. Follow it to see the matching account usernames. If you manage multiple family accounts with one email, pay close attention to the resulting list instead of choosing the first similar display name. Then sign in with the appropriate username and your password.
Recover usernames using a verified phone
Choose the phone tab on the same recovery page, enter the country code and the number connected to the Roblox account, and continue with the SMS verification step. The verified flow can display usernames associated with the number. Do not give that code to a caller or an account-recovery seller. Phone features are not identical in every region, so do not treat an absent phone tab as a support guarantee.
What if both methods are unavailable?
Roblox also mentions certain past purchase receipts as a possible way to locate a username. Search legitimate app-store or payment emails for a Roblox transaction associated with your account and check whether the username appears. This helps identify a username, not bypass the password or ownership requirements. If the account has no recovery information and no usable purchase history, Roblox’s stated recovery options are extremely limited.
Avoid the common impersonation trap
A public profile with a similar avatar is not definitive proof of ownership. Never send a verification code, password or payment-card number to someone who promises instant recovery on Discord, social media or a video comment. Once you are signed back in, add and verify a recovery email and keep it updated. That preventive step is much faster than solving a second lockout.
