Walmart Expert Grill Brush Recall: 5 Model Numbers & Refund Guide

Quick answer: Walmart has recalled about 4,477,655 Expert Grill metal wire-bristle grill brushes because their small metal wires can come loose, stick to grill surfaces or food, and cause serious injuries if swallowed. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on October 1, 2026. It covers five specific model numbers, including a ten-piece grill tool kit sold at Walmart and Walmart.com. If yours matches, stop using it immediately and contact Walmart for a full refund or Walmart credit. The official hotline is 800-925-6278.

Which Walmart Expert Grill brushes are recalled?

The easiest way to check is to match the exact model number printed on the product packaging or a sticker or tag attached to the brush. The CPSC’s official recall notice identifies these five models—not every product made under the Expert Grill brand.

Important: Some headlines say “lot numbers,” but the CPSC’s identification table supplies model numbers. Do not invent or look for a single universal batch code. The 10-piece kit is included even though its other tools may look different from standalone grill brushes.

How to tell if your Expert Grill brush is affected

1. Stop using the brush while you check it; do not keep grilling with a brush that may shed metal wires.
2. Look for Expert Grill branding, a black plastic or stainless-steel handle, and metal wire bristles. Some recalled items have scrapers attached.
3. Locate the model number on an attached tag, sticker or original packaging.
4. Compare the number exactly with the five-entry table above, paying attention to the similar beginning digits.
5. If you no longer have a readable model label, compare the product photos at the official CPSC recall and contact Walmart for confirmation before using it again.

The featured image shows the recalled 16-inch brush with scraper, model EX5607031616002. It does not illustrate all five recalled styles. The CPSC notice contains individual reference photographs of the handheld, three-head, long-handle and ten-piece set versions.

What is the safety hazard?

Thin metal wire bristles can separate from the brush head during cleaning and remain stuck to a grill grate. They may later adhere to food without being noticed. The CPSC warns that swallowing detached bristles could cause serious internal injuries requiring surgery.

According to the October 1 recall notice, no incidents or injuries had been reported for this particular Walmart Expert Grill recall at the time of the announcement. That does not mean the product is safe to continue using; recalls are intended to reduce a foreseeable risk before someone is injured.

If someone may have swallowed a metal wire and develops pain, difficulty swallowing or other concerning symptoms, seek medical assessment promptly. Do not try to find or remove an embedded wire at home. This is general precautionary advice, not a diagnosis.

How to get a refund from Walmart

Walmart’s official remedy is a full refund or a credit redeemable at any Walmart store or Walmart.com. The CPSC says consumers will be asked to return the recalled brush to Walmart or discard it. Do not assume that a particular claim route, receipt exemption or replacement product is guaranteed without checking the current recall instructions.

Keep any photos of the model number or original packaging until Walmart explains whether it wants the physical brush returned. Do not resell, donate or give away a recalled item.

When and where were the affected brushes sold?

The products were sold at Walmart stores and online, including Walmart.com, between January 2021 and August 2026, depending on the model. Prices ranged from $1 to $28, according to CPSC. The recall covers approximately 4.48 million units imported by Walmart, Inc. and manufactured in China.

Not every model was sold throughout the whole five-year range: for example, the two 16-inch or handheld brushes entered the listed distribution in January 2025, while the 17.7-inch long-handle version dates back to January 2021. That is why the model-specific dates in the table matter more than a generic headline claiming all brushes were sold from the same year.

Are all Expert Grill brushes or Walmart grill tools recalled?

No blanket recall is established for all Expert Grill accessories. This CPSC action specifically lists the five model numbers in the table above. Other Expert Grill tools, and brush products sold by other companies, require their own recall verification. If the label is missing, use CPSC photographs and Walmart’s official customer-service channel instead of guessing from appearance alone.

Other 2026 grill-brush recalls involving Weber, Nexgrill and Cuisinart have been reported separately. Their different model lists and refund procedures must not be substituted for Walmart’s Expert Grill instructions. Be cautious of comparison sites that accidentally mix one company’s refund steps into another company’s recall.

How to clean a grill without loose metal bristles

The immediate goal is to remove the recalled brush from use. If you need to clean your grill, follow the grill manufacturer’s instructions and use a compatible scraper or non-wire cleaning accessory that does not use detachable steel bristles. Some alternatives have heat limitations, so do not apply plastic or nylon tools to grates at temperatures higher than their instructions permit.

Before your next meal, inspect and clean the grate carefully if you have used an affected wire brush in the past. That precaution does not substitute for a recall refund, and it cannot guarantee that every tiny bristle has been found.

Expert Grill recall vs. other recent safety alerts

AVARIXO also has dedicated guides for unrelated product safety notices, including the HotHands rechargeable hand warmer recall and the GBYMIUY magnetic toy recall. Each notice has a different hazard, product identification and refund process; none changes the instructions for the Expert Grill brushes.
