Quick answer: Valve’s official 2026 promotion was the Steam Autumn Sale, which ran through October 8, 2026. The sale is now over, but the same wishlist, discount-comparison and refund principles still apply to future Steam promotions.
Steam Autumn Sale 2026 dates
Valve’s Steam Promotions page shows the Autumn Sale 2026 as an event that ended on October 8. Do not rely on a third-party countdown site for future sale dates; use Steam’s own promotional calendar and store announcements.
Use wishlists before a sale
Add games to your Steam wishlist before a promotion begins and enable supported notifications. A wishlist can alert you when a game is discounted, but it does not reserve a price or guarantee that a publisher will participate.
Compare the actual edition on sale
Check whether the discount applies to the base game, Deluxe or Ultimate edition, a bundle, DLC, or a soundtrack. Regional pricing and taxes can also change the final amount, so compare the actual checkout price rather than the percentage badge alone.
Refunds still follow Steam’s refund policy
A seasonal discount does not create a separate refund policy. Review Steam’s current refund terms before buying, especially if you are close to the usual playtime or purchase-age limits.
Common mistakes
- Assuming every game participates in the Autumn Sale.
- Buying the wrong edition because a larger percentage discount looks better.
- Purchasing an off-platform key without checking region or activation limits.
- Assuming a wishlist notification guarantees the lowest historical price.
What to do now that the sale has ended
If a game you wanted is no longer discounted, keep it on your wishlist and wait for a future Steam promotion rather than using an unknown key reseller. Valve’s official promotions page is the safest place to confirm upcoming events.
