Nobel Peace Prize 2026: Announcement Time, Live Stream & Nominees

Quick answer: The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST)—5:00 a.m. Eastern / 2:00 a.m. Pacific in the United States. The Norwegian Nobel Committee will reveal its decision at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo. The winner has not been announced as of October 8. The committee’s official announcement notice confirms the place and timing, and the Nobel Peace Center plans a public screening beginning at 10:30 a.m. Oslo time.

What time is the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize announced?

The Norwegian Nobel Institute has scheduled its press conference for 11:00 a.m. Oslo time on October 9. Norway is observing summer time that day, so its time zone is CEST (UTC+2), not the winter-time abbreviation CET. The international conversions below all refer to the same instant, before any local changes to daylight-saving schedules.

Remember that 11:00 a.m. is the announced start time, not a promise that every streaming feed will appear at precisely that second. For a confirmed schedule rather than an unofficial countdown, consult the Norwegian Nobel Institute event page.

How to watch the Nobel Peace Prize 2026 announcement live

The announcement is a press conference, not the December prize ceremony. For online viewing, check NobelPrize.org and its linked official video channels on the morning of October 9; these are the safest starting points to avoid unofficial streams that recycle footage from prior years.

For those in Oslo, the Nobel Peace Center says it will screen the announcement both inside and outside its building. Its programme begins at 10:30 a.m. CEST, half an hour before the announcement, with coverage from Norwegian broadcaster NRK. The center says it will also mark the day by releasing a symbolic peace dove.

Do not confuse the two venues: the Norwegian Nobel Institute hosts the actual prize announcement and restricts its press conference to accredited media. the Nobel Peace Center is the public-facing location where visitors can watch the announcement. The institute lists its address as Henrik Ibsens gate 51, Oslo.

Has the Nobel Peace Prize 2026 winner been announced?

No—not as of October 8, 2026. The official announcement is scheduled for October 9. An article, social post or betting market listing an apparent winner before the committee makes its decision public should not be treated as confirmation.

The prize will be announced by Jørgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, according to the institute’s notice. The winner may be an individual or an organization, depending on the committee’s decision.

How many people and organizations were nominated in 2026?

The Norwegian Nobel Institute has reported 287 valid nominations for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize: 208 individuals and 79 organizations. That is a count of entries submitted by eligible nominators, not an official shortlist of 287 equally likely finalists, and it does not mean everyone described as a nominee on social media has been validated by the committee.

The full official list is confidential. Nobel rules prevent the committee from disclosing candidates and nominators for 50 years. Individual nominators can sometimes speak about whom they put forward; such publicity is not the same as an official endorsement or proof that the person will win. Readers should be especially wary of misleading lists labeled “the official nominees.”

Why the Peace Prize is announced in Oslo, not Stockholm

Most Nobel Prize announcements are associated with Stockholm and Swedish awarding institutions. The Peace Prize is the exception: Alfred Nobel entrusted it to a committee selected by Norway’s parliament, and the prize is announced and presented in Oslo. The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature is a separate award announced by the Swedish Academy on October 8; a literature winner does not determine the peace selection.

What happens after the winner is announced?

Shortly after the press conference, the committee normally publishes a citation explaining why it selected the laureate. That official statement is the strongest source for what the winner actually received the prize for. Media reaction, biographies and criticism can follow, but should be separated from the committee’s own reasoning.

The annual Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony is held in Oslo on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death. It is a different event from October’s winner announcement. Viewers looking for the Nobel banquet or the Swedish prizes should not assume they are watching the Peace Prize ceremony.

How to verify the result when the announcement goes live

1. Open the official Nobel Peace Prize website shortly after 11:00 a.m. CEST on October 9.
2. Cross-check the name and the committee’s citation at NobelPrize.org.
3. Check whether the recipient is an individual, a group or an organization; reports may use shortened names.
4. Look for the reason given by the Nobel Committee before drawing conclusions from a headline.
5. Use a fresh article timestamp: prewritten prediction stories are not official results.
