Minecraft Abandoned Camps Guide (2026): Where to Find Them and What to Expect
Abandoned Camps are new structures added in Minecraft’s September 15, 2026 Wilderness Bound release. They make exploration more rewarding, but there is an important distinction between a structure that can contain loot and a structure that is guaranteed to contain the exact item you want. Mojang confirms camps in several wooded and upland biomes. This guide helps you search efficiently and decide which supplies to bring without inventing a chest drop rate.
Which biomes contain abandoned camps?
The official Bedrock 26.50 changelog lists Meadow, Cherry Grove, Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Flower Forest, Windswept Forest, Dappled Forest, Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Sparse Jungle, Bamboo Jungle, Swamp, Savanna, Wooded Badlands, and Pale Garden. You do not have to wait for the new Dappled Forest to encounter one. A camp can appear across several familiar surface biomes, which makes broad exploration useful.
How to build a search route
- Check your installed version first. Wilderness Bound was released as Java 26.3 and Bedrock 26.50; older worlds require a compatible version to generate new content in previously unexplored terrain.
- Choose a region with multiple eligible forest types close together rather than crossing an ocean in search of one biome.
- Travel on the surface where tents or small clearings may be visible. Mark a return path using coordinates or your own map.
- Check camp containers when you find a structure, but leave space in inventory for items you might actually use.
- If no camp appears, change regions. The published biome list is an eligibility list, not a promise that every forest holds a camp.
What is inside an abandoned camp?
Mojang and Nintendo describe a deserted campsite with an empty tent, a campfire, cushions, straw beds and potential loot. The configuration can vary. The official feature list does not guarantee a unique treasure in every chest, so we will not label diamonds, armor or a particular enchantment as certain rewards. Inspect both visible shelter features and any containers before deciding whether to dismantle the structure for blocks.
What can you bring home?
The camp is useful to builders as a reference for a low-profile wilderness outpost and to survival players for its practical shelter-related items. A cushion lets you sit; a straw bed can skip the night without changing the place where you respawn. Those two items serve different needs, so choosing the right one matters more than counting camp decorations.
Are explorer maps useful?
Wilderness Bound also added new Explorer Maps. The official notes confirm the feature but do not imply every map from every villager will lead directly to an abandoned camp. Read the map’s actual destination before buying or following it. Coordinate records and a compass can supplement maps for long journeys.
A beginner’s camp checklist
Pack enough food, one reliable tool for clearing obstacles, a way to navigate home and an empty inventory slot for unexpected finds. If the trip is mostly for decorations, avoid unnecessary combat and bring a spare storage container. Camp exploration is best treated as a side benefit of investigating multiple forest types rather than a guaranteed high-value loot farm.
Frequently asked questions
Are abandoned camps in the Dappled Forest only?
No. They can appear in a variety of forests and related biomes, including ordinary Forest and Taiga variants.
Does every camp contain rare loot?
No exact rare-loot guarantee is established by the official announcement.
Can camps appear in an older world?
New world-generation structures generally require compatible, not-yet-generated terrain; unexplored areas are the appropriate place to look.
