Discord Music Bots in 2026: 3 Options, Setup Steps and Playback Fixes

A Discord music bot adds shared music playback to a voice channel, typically through an app you authorize for your server. If you want a starting point in 2026, compare SoundCloud Bot for its official SoundCloud catalog, Beatra for a multi-source music interface, and Luna Bot for music request channels. All three currently publish music functionality on their own sites; that is not a claim that AVARIXO independently tested uptime, audio quality, or every platform connection.

The safest setup is to add an app through Discord’s App Directory or its official provider website, inspect permissions, join a voice channel, and use the app’s documented playback controls. Music sources, quotas, and paid features can change, so verify those on the provider’s current documentation rather than trusting an old bot list.

Three Discord music bot options to check first

BotBest suited toWhat its official website saysWhat to confirm before inviting
SoundCloud BotGroups listening to tracks available through SoundCloudOfficial SoundCloud integration, a library connection, and a /play commandWhich tracks are included and whether your content needs an account or paid access
BeatraPeople who want a multi-source music interfaceQueue controls, /play, web player, and multiple source integrationsWhich services and specific playback functions work with your account and free tier
Luna BotServers that prefer a dedicated music-request channelRequest-channel setup, playlist functions, and playback controlsRequired /setup permissions and any premium restrictions

How this comparison was made: the entries are based on the bot providers’ publicly accessible feature and setup pages, checked in October 2026. They are not ordered by measured sound quality or popularity. A feature advertised by a provider is not a guarantee that every track or external service is playable.

1. SoundCloud Bot: a focused catalog-based choice

The official SoundCloud Bot website describes playback of select tracks and access to tracks from a connected SoundCloud library. It publishes commands such as /play, /loop, and /autoplay. Importantly, its website also describes account connection and additional access requirements for some content. Choose it if SoundCloud discovery is your priority, not because you assume it can play every copyrighted track from any music service.

2. Beatra: a multi-source interface with queue tools

Beatra’s official site lists a web player, queue and playlist management, slash commands, and integrations involving services such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube. It promotes a free version and separately advertises premium options, including enhanced continuous playback. Treat its supported services as provider claims: test the exact playlist or link type you need before setting up the server around it.

3. Luna Bot: a request-channel workflow

Luna Bot documents inviting the bot, configuring a request channel with /setup, and letting users request songs in that channel. This may be easier for a busy community than asking members to memorize many commands. Its website describes playlists and additional premium controls; check the current bot dashboard or documentation before assuming an option is free.

How to add a music bot to your Discord server

  1. Choose an official listing. On desktop or the Discord web app, open your server’s Server Settings → App Directory, or visit the bot developer’s official site and follow its invitation link. Avoid unofficial login forms asking for your Discord password.
  2. Check your role. You generally must own the server or have the Manage Server permission to add a server app.
  3. Review the permission request. Read what the bot asks to access. A voice-music bot may need to connect to and speak in a voice channel. Requests unrelated to its function deserve scrutiny.
  4. Select the correct server, authorize the bot, and confirm it appears under Server Settings → Integrations → Bots and Apps or in the member list.
  5. Join a voice channel with your account. Ensure the bot can see and join that channel under your server’s channel permission rules.
  6. Start with the bot’s documented command. For example, Beatra and SoundCloud Bot advertise /play. Other bots can use request channels, buttons, or different command names.
  7. Test one permitted track and confirm you can hear it. Adjust the bot’s user volume in Discord before concluding playback has failed.

Discord’s official app installation guide describes the App Directory and permission requirements. Its exact interface can vary by client and feature rollout.

Music bot not playing? Check these four things first

Four-part troubleshooting checklist for Discord music bot installation, voice channel permission, commands and audio
Check the app, channel, playback command, and audio in that order. Original AVARIXO diagnostic diagram (CC0).

1. The app did not join your server

Confirm you used the correct Discord account during authorization and selected a server where you have Manage Server access. Open the server’s app integrations list and check whether the bot is present. If it is not, redo authorization through the developer’s official site or Discord’s own directory.

2. The bot is online but cannot join voice

Inspect the specific voice channel’s permissions, particularly whether the bot can View Channel, Connect, and Speak. A restrictive channel override can block a bot even if it has broader server permissions. Verify that you and the bot are joining the intended channel, and check whether the channel has a user limit.

3. The command is missing or does nothing

Make sure you’re using commands for the bot that is actually installed. Try typing / and selecting its command from Discord’s command picker. Some music apps use a dedicated request channel or web dashboard instead. Check the bot’s official command documentation for the current workflow. A bot being listed in a search result does not prove its commands are functioning right now.

4. The bot joins, but you hear silence

Check if the bot or your own headphones are muted, whether your device output is correct, and whether Discord’s user-specific volume for the bot is turned down. Then try another track you are permitted to access. Some sources and tracks may have playback restrictions or changed licensing; not every failure is a Discord server outage.

If all of Discord seems affected rather than just one music app, check our Discord server status troubleshooting guide. For audio missing specifically during a screen share, see Discord screen share audio fixes; a voice-channel bot uses a different playback path.

Why old “best Discord music bot” lists can be wrong

Some lists still recommend Hydra for music playback. But the project’s own announcement says Hydra removed its music features on February 7, 2023. Hydra may still offer unrelated server-management tools; it should not be recommended as a current music bot on the strength of its historical reputation. This is why checking the provider’s website matters more than copying an older roundup.

Likewise, “Spotify support” can describe accepting a Spotify playlist link, resolving song names through another source, or something else entirely. Do not automatically interpret every integrations logo as proof that licensed Spotify audio itself streams through a bot. Verify what the provider actually offers.

FAQ about Discord music bots

Can you add a music bot to Discord for free?

Some music apps advertise free access, including the providers listed here, but free features vary. Check the latest developer terms for paid modes, source restrictions, and limits before inviting one.

Do I need to be a server administrator?

To add a server app, Discord generally requires server ownership or the Manage Server permission. Ordinary members may be able to use an app already installed, subject to the server’s permissions.

Can a music bot play Spotify playlists?

Some providers claim playlist integrations, but support does not necessarily mean they stream Spotify audio directly. Confirm how that specific bot resolves playlist links, whether it needs an account, and which songs are available through its playback sources.

Does Hydra still work as a music bot?

No, not for its former music features: Hydra’s own notice says it removed music functionality in February 2023. It continues to have other bot capabilities.

Why does a bot join my channel without sound?

Check user volume, mute/deafen state, bot permissions, track availability, output device, and whether the application reports a playback failure. Use the official support channel for bot-specific errors.

The practical choice

Pick your Discord music bot by the source you can actually use and the controls your server needs, not by an unsupported “best” ranking. SoundCloud Bot is a sensible place to investigate for SoundCloud-focused listening; Beatra advertises broad queue and source controls; Luna Bot documents a simple request-channel model. Check current conditions, add the app from a trusted location, and verify playback with one track before changing your server setup.
