How to Appear Offline on Roblox: Control Who Sees You Playing
How to appear offline on Roblox is now a privacy-setting question, not a trick that requires a browser extension or another app. Roblox lets eligible accounts choose who can see their online status and, separately, which experience they are playing. The exact choices depend on age and region, so the options on one account may not match another.
Here is the quickest route, followed by the important limitations so you do not confuse “appearing offline” with actually disconnecting from Roblox.
How to appear offline on Roblox on a computer
- Sign in at the official Roblox website.
- Open the gear icon in the upper-right corner and choose Settings.
- Choose Privacy & content restrictions.
- Open Visibility & private servers, then Visibility.
- Under Online Status, choose the narrowest audience your account is offered. If No one is available, selecting it prevents other users from seeing you as online on your profile and Friends list.
These steps follow Roblox’s official Online Status and Visibility instructions. If you do not see the exact wording above, revisit the Privacy area and check whether the account has age-related or regional restrictions before assuming the feature was removed.
How to change your online status on Roblox mobile
- Open the official Roblox app and sign in to the correct account.
- Tap More at the bottom-right, then tap Settings (the gear icon).
- Go to Privacy & content restrictions → Visibility & private servers → Visibility.
- Change Online Status to the privacy level you prefer.
Roblox’s mobile support instructions use the same Visibility area as the desktop website. If a device displays an older interface, update the app through its official store and look for the equivalent privacy controls. Avoid apps that claim to “force invisible mode” by requesting your Roblox password.
Online Status versus Show current experience
There are two different questions: can someone see that you are online, and can they see the experience you are in? Changing one setting does not mean the other must have changed. In the same Visibility panel, check Show current experience. Roblox says that users outside the audience you select there will not see the experience you are playing.
If your aim is a quieter session, adjust both controls rather than relying on Online Status alone. Roblox also offers a separate Share activity updates option; consider disabling it if you do not want friends notified about recent in-experience activity. Some restrictions can affect related features, so read the description Roblox displays next to each choice.
Does this make your avatar invisible in a game?
No. A privacy choice for your profile or Friends list is not a cloak inside an experience. Players sharing the same server may still encounter your avatar or see in-game information provided by that experience. Private servers and experience-specific mechanics are different from online-status visibility.
Does appearing offline stop friend requests or messages?
Not necessarily. Visibility does not replace every communication control or your blocked-users list. If a specific person is bothering you, review account safety settings and consider blocking them. See our guide to blocking someone on Roblox for the relevant options.
What if the “No one” option does not appear?
Roblox explicitly says that visibility options vary by age and region. Depending on the account, choices can include friends, trusted friends, followers, people you follow, no one, or everyone. These are possible audiences, not a promise that all six appear for every player.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the account whose status you want to change.
- Check Privacy & content restrictions and Visibility rather than searching for a separate “offline mode” toggle.
- Inspect the available audience labels and choose only one that is actually present.
- For a child account, review applicable parent-managed settings. Our Roblox parental controls explainer outlines the difference between parent and child controls.
- Use Roblox Support if you believe the menu behaves incorrectly; do not try to bypass age restrictions with third-party tools.
Want to play privately? Use the right feature
“Appear offline,” “hide my current game,” and “play without internet” are different requests. Online Status affects how other people see your account. Show current experience affects what game is visible to others. Playing without an internet connection is a separate technical issue, and changing privacy settings does not enable offline gameplay. For a related distinction, read our look at Roblox offline-play plans.
If you want a smaller audience inside a particular experience, investigate whether that experience offers a private server. A private server can control access to a server but is not the same as hiding your account status. Our private-server setup guide covers that separate feature.
FAQ
Can I appear offline on Roblox while still playing?
You can restrict who sees your online status using Roblox’s Visibility setting, subject to the options available to your account. You may still be visible to people who share an experience with you.
Is the setting available on iPhone and Android?
Roblox documents a mobile route through More, Settings, Privacy & content restrictions, and Visibility. Available audience choices depend on the account, not just the phone.
Can I hide which Roblox game I am playing?
Use the separate Show current experience control in the Visibility panel. Choose an available audience that matches the privacy level you want.
Will changing my status delete my friends?
Changing online-status visibility is not the same as unfriending someone. Blocking is a separate action with its own consequences.
